Attendance

Regular attendance gives children the best opportunity to learn, build friendships and feel part of their class. Even occasional absences can add up. Missing just one day every two weeks amounts to almost a full month of school over the year.

We recognise that there are legitimate reasons for missing school, including illness, medical appointments and family emergencies. Children should not attend school when they are unwell and should remain at home until they are well enough to return.

Why attendance matters

Attending school regularly helps children to:

  • Keep up with their learning
  • Build friendships and a sense of belonging
  • Develop good habits for the future
  • Achieve their best in literacy and numeracy

Missing lessons can make it difficult to catch up, particularly in subjects such as maths, where new learning often builds on concepts taught previously.

Reporting an absence

If your child is absent, please explain the reason through the Aladdin Connect app. The school must maintain accurate attendance records and is required to report pupils who have missed 20 or more school days during the school year.

Punctuality

Arriving on time helps children settle into class and make the most of the school day. If something delays you in the morning, please still bring your child to school. Arriving late is always better than missing the full day.

Attendance updates

Automated messages are sent after 5, 10 and 15 days of absence. These messages are sent in all cases, including when absences have been explained. They are not a criticism and are simply intended to help families keep track of the number of days missed.

If a child’s attendance begins to cause concern, we may invite their parents or guardians to meet with us and discuss any support that could help.

We are here to help

If your family is experiencing difficulties with attendance or punctuality, please contact the school office. We will be happy to work with you and provide support where possible.
